What it is
Align Probiotic is a single-strain probiotic built around Bifidobacterium longum 35624 (trademarked as Bifidobacterium 35624™), delivering 1 billion CFU per capsule. It’s one of the more heavily studied single-strain probiotics on the market specifically for IBS-type symptoms, which we covered in more depth in our probiotics and IBS guide.
Dosage vs. the evidence — a genuinely mixed picture
This is a case where more research doesn’t point to a clean answer. Three randomized placebo-controlled trials and two open-label trials have studied this strain in IBS populations, with real inconsistency in the dosing results: one 8-week study found a 43.4% reduction in IBS symptom scores at a 10 billion CFU/day dose, while a separate dose-ranging study found benefit only at 100 million CFU/day — with both a lower (1 million CFU) and a higher (10 billion CFU) dose showing no improvement over placebo in that particular trial.
Align’s capsules provide 1 billion CFU each, which sits between the doses that have shown mixed results across different studies. We’re flagging this directly rather than smoothing it over: the strain itself has real, repeated research behind it for IBS-type symptoms (gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort), but the dose-response relationship isn’t as clean as “more CFU is always better,” and Align’s specific per-capsule dose doesn’t map neatly onto any single trial’s exact protocol.
Third-party certification and transparency
Align discloses the specific trademarked strain (Bifidobacterium 35624) rather than a generic genus name, which is the single most important label detail for a probiotic per our probiotics guide — strain, not CFU count, is what the evidence is actually tied to. We did not find an NSF or USP third-party certification specific to Align’s probiotic line at the time of writing; verify current certification status directly with the manufacturer before purchase, since supplement certifications can change.
Price
Typical pricing runs roughly $0.66 to $1.02 per capsule depending on retailer and pack size (e.g., around $55 for an 84-capsule bottle at warehouse retailers, versus higher per-unit pricing on smaller bottles) — prices vary by retailer and fluctuate over time.
Bottom line
A well-documented, specific strain with real (if inconsistent) clinical research behind it for IBS-type symptoms, at a price premium reflecting that research investment. Worth trying if the strain’s studied use case matches your symptoms, but go in knowing the evidence for the exact dose is mixed, not a settled “clinically proven” claim.
